About the Program

The project “Building Societies Free from Violence Against Immigrant Women, an Intersectional Perspective: Gender, Origin, and Social Class” is an initiative funded by the Ministry of Equality and implemented by the NGO América, España, Solidaridad y Cooperación – AESCO.

As part of this project, a series of meaningful and valuable actions have been carried out, including the creation of materials and tools focused on raising awareness, sensitization, and prevention of gender-based violence specifically aimed at immigrant women. A crucial aspect of this process is understanding the existing protocols regarding gender-based violence against migrant women. These action protocols are essential to guarantee a coordinated and effective response to cases of violence, providing migrant women with access to the necessary resources and services.

Within this initiative, various actions have been carried out to foster collaboration among the different stakeholders involved in the prevention of and response to situations of violence that immigrant women may face. The active and coordinated participation of these actors is essential to comprehensively address this social challenge. This collaboration has made it possible to bring together the experience and knowledge of different stakeholders, including gender experts, social care professionals, public administration representatives, and, of course, immigrant women themselves, who have shared their experiences and perspectives.

As a result of this joint effort, educational material characterized by its practicality and accessibility has been created. This material has been designed with the specific needs of immigrant women in mind and provides valuable information on how to identify and respond to situations of gender-based violence. It is a resource that empowers these women by providing them with the necessary tools to recognize warning signs and take action to protect themselves.

In addition to this reactive approach, the project has generated educational tools aimed at prevention and awareness-raising. These tools focus not only on gender-based violence itself, but also on the different forms of violence that immigrant women may experience due to their gender, origin, and social status. By promoting fundamental values such as equality, diversity, respect, and the value of every individual, the project seeks to create a safer and more understanding environment in which all women, regardless of their origin or circumstances, feel protected and supported.

Awareness

One of the fundamental pillars of the project has been the creation of awareness resources that go beyond individual support and focus on raising awareness within society as a whole. These resources place special emphasis on migrant women, recognizing the importance of highlighting the visibility of the different forms of violence to which this group may be exposed. Awareness is essential to promote a more inclusive and supportive society, as well as to eradicate discrimination and violence in all its forms.

Each video is a powerful tool for generating empathy, understanding, and action. Through stories and concrete examples, the complexity of migrant women’s experiences is illustrated, highlighting the need for support and solidarity from society as a whole. These videos offer a window into the lives of migrant women and help raise awareness among the public about the specific challenges they face, as well as the importance of a world free from gender-based violence.

Equality Capsule 2: “Policies and resources exist, but they are not reaching all women. There is no equality.”

Materials Created

As part of the program’s achievements, a guide aimed at immigrant women has been designed with the purpose of providing essential information about the possible types of violence they may face during their migration process and after their arrival, as well as details about the resources and services available to address situations of gender-based violence and questions that may arise during the document regularization process.

BRACELETS FOR MIGRANT WOMEN

During the workshops with the women benefiting from the program, the need arose for an immediate and effective tool to address gender-based violence. As a result, a fabric bracelet intended for immigrant women was created and distributed in various cities where the program is implemented (Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza and Bilbao). These bracelets include a QR code that provides access to the AESCO website to learn about the available resources.

Resources for Migrant Women

Here you will find relevant information about organizations and resources that may be useful both for migrant women fighting against gender-based violence and for those going through the migration process. The program was carried out in six cities: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Bilbao, Zaragoza and Seville. In each of these cities, a list of relevant organizations has been created, accompanied by a brief description of their objectives and the contact methods they provide. To make your search easier, you can select one of the cities and the recommended institutions for that location will be displayed.
